Jakarta Restaurant Reviews

from Jakarta's very own review ninja.

Please leave a comment.

Otherwise i will eat a kitten per day. Thanks.
Any comments on places I haven’t reviewed yet? Please share here. We all eat, we all have opinions, so if you can’t find your venue, leave a comment and if it is comprehensive, it will get turned into a permanent post. Seafood restaurant reviews are especially welcome as seafood is not my friend so i wouldn’t know a good one from a bad one. The blog especially loves tales of woe and head-slapping incompetence. Shouldn’t be too hard in this city.
marmalade-jalajalanjakarta.blogspot.com welcomes contributions.
Payment is strictly in karma.

smallprint: Subway should open in Jakarta. McDonalds/KFC/A&W etc are not considered eateries. Warungs, however are. Beef bacon is a joke, not a valid food. Marmalade reserves the right to edit posts that he finds dull. Reviews will be posted under the contributors name/desired nom de plume/anonymously as requested. Reviews of practically anything will be considered as this blog has few, if any, quality control standards, or standards for that matter.

  4. Stop it, you are making me cry. Anyone know of a decent make-your-own-sandwich place?

  5. hm i dunno about make-your-own sandwiches, but i’ve heard the sandwich place in Pacific Place called capocaccia is quite nice!

  6. Thanks, Nism, you are the second person to say that to me (about capocaccia). That in terms of this blog represents a groundswell of opinion. Will put it on my things to do list. :-)

  7. excuse me to remain anonymous for now but when i have time will make a nice profile. Also excuse my English Language, i am a local indonesian and still try to get better english.

question 1–why use the name Ninja for review style: From Wikipedia–Ninja "In Japanese history, a ninja (忍者 ninja?) is a warrior specially trained in a variety of unorthodox arts of war. These include assassination, illusion, espionage, and various martial arts."

So ninja is warrior, likes to fight, kill etc etc..ok, i know for movies the ninja often becomes the hero like kill bill, bruce lee etc and is good guy..but actually he is NOT. He is a killer. Not serious you think, but do you know history of japanese imperialism and especially effect in Indonesia in second world war..these guys were brutal, did many bad thing and this image of ninja (japanese warrior) is an insult to indonesian people.. many my local friends agree and dissappointed with you for that. Can you think about the name?

Question 2: here i paste the names of places you already review:
5th Avenue Cafe, A Gran Melia, Amigo's, …Beyond, Brewww, Buddha Bar, Cazbar, Chameleon, De Hooi, Eastern Promise, Elbow Room,Front Page, Glass Lounge, Hacienda, Immigrant, IndoChine, J.W. Marriott, Kinara, Loca!, Loewy, Minus 2, Moya, Nathan Coffee,Orleans 'The Singing Bistro', Ottimo Deli, Poste, Potato Head,Rustique, Social House, Tartine, Ti Amo, The Apartment, Times Square, Tony Roma's, Toscana, Trattoria, VIN+, YaUdah..

can you confirm your review is only for ELITE people? all places you reviewed is very expensive and cannot be afforded by 90% people in this country..maybe your review should be for expats, rich fatcat indonesians, corrupt politician …is this the group you have association with..do you think if you review more simple place it is 'dirty'..i have suggestions:: cafe ubur-ubur lebak bulus, cafe merem also lebak bulus, T4Qita in kebayoran baru, warung sedap blok m, daun kelapa -sabang, Bu Tanti Trattoria menteng, rumahku rumahmu near harmoni–all great, not expensive and not copy western style. why come to indo and eat only western style..not logical. Anyway i have many more suggestion if you need..
    thank you
